Born in 1967 in
Rochester, Minnesota, Lauren Bernofsky began studying the violin at
the age of seven, and was later introduced to composition while
studying at the New Orleans Center for the Creative Arts. She holds
an undergraduate degree in violin and composition from The Hartt
School, a master¹s degree in composition from New England
Conservatory of Music, and a doctorate in composition from Boston
University. Her principal teachers have been Bert Braud, Robert Carl,
and Lukas Foss.
Lauren is a
recipient of grants from the National Foundation for the Advancement
of the Arts, American Composers Forum, and American Music Center.
Commissions include groups such as the Holyoke Civic Symphony
(Holyoke, MA), the Litchfield County Children's Choir (Watertown,
CT), Rivers Music School (Weston, MA), the South Shore Conservatory
(Duxbury, MA), and Sinfonia Calcania of Boston. Her music has been
performed throughout the United States, as well as in Canada, New
Zealand, and Australia. |
