Darkened Sleepy Hollow
I am a student a
Hurley Middle School in Massachusetts and we are playing this song
for Great East Festival this June. Our school band has pretty
much mastered this song, and we love to play it. It is a pretty nice
piece, and we are sure that we will get Platinum in Festival, like my
band did last year, when we were in 6th grade. We absolutely love it,
and we are so happy that we are playing it!

I thought it was a
very exciting piece both to listen to and play. The imagery the music
evokes ranges from energetic to calm, and to its full glory once
more. Different from some pieces, this was a challenge for everyone
in the band (even the low brass). I love having the piece on our
repertoire and hope to get the chance to play it again.

This piece has
quickly become one of my favorites. My kids like it because it is
both energetic and expressive. I like it because the scoring is
masterful my band sounds very full compared to other pieces we
are playing. This ought to find its way onto state lists very quickly
if it hasn't already. Wonderful!

Darkness is Always Soft
Wow, I really
loved this piece. The percussion sounded excellent. The dynamics gave
me chills, they were performed so good. What a difference the
beginning is from the ending. The Whole arrangement is incredible.

This piece was an
extremely fun one to play. Especially for me as a bari sax player.
This chart always had some surprises. Lots of fun.

This piece is very
dramatic and exciting! We are playing it for our UIL contest and I
just can't wait. I play 1st clarinet part and sometimes play the
flute and I just cannot get enough this piece!

This piece was
composed very well. my orchestra is playing this piece and we are all
sure that it will blow the audience away! Soon Hee Newbold really
outdid herself this time... we've played so many of her pieces and by
far this one is the catchiest!

This is a gorgeous
piece and a great concept, having the easy melody part and a more
advanced part for all instruments. I have used this piece at all my
elementary and middle schools this year with great success (and the
kids love it!) It is excellent for promoting musical phrasing,
teaching dynamics and bow speed control, and extremely moving when
performed by more advanced students with vibrato.
Thanks for a
beautiful addition to the Grade 1 level. More pieces using this
multi-level approach for all instruments, please!

This piece has got
an amazing melody. Brian Kidd does an amazing job of starting it off
with the rhythm section, then going into a trio with the alto, tenor,
and trumpet. We are playing this piece in our 8th grade jazz band, it
makes us work every time we play it.

This is a
wonderful tune, I got the chance to be the first to perform this at
Michigan Tech with the Michigan Tech Jazz Lab Band. Its a great band
arrangement, Frank did a very wonderful job. I highly recommend this.

Marvelous piece of
music. We played it last year for State Finals and it was definitely
on of the key factors in receiving a I rating at state contest. I
loved the different sections and the contrast between the sections.
Also the ad-lib part in the percussion after the "bomb
dropping" was a lot of fun to play. This piece has also been a
great topic for essays about inspiring music. I absolutely loved this
piece of music.

This is an
outstanding piece of musical work. I am a 9th grader in my High
School Concert Band and I heard this piece played on a CD and
instantly loved it. I play the trumpet and the rhythms and different
harmonies together make this piece so great. I like the different
tempos and the movements. I recommend this piece to any high school
or college concert band.
