Momentous
I just wanted to
say that the 6th grade orchestra at Brentfield is doing this piece
for our competition at Sandy Lake. We just finished learning this fun
and beautiful piece today. My Orchestra class loves the music and how
it sounds (I love it too!) We're glad that Elliot Del Borgo wrote
this piece! This will hopefully help us win our competition!
PS: Thanks for
having this website!

Heaven's Air
This piece is very
amazing. Just recently it was introduced to us in my band class, we
played it and I just thought it was beautiful. Then when I read the
story behind it, it really touched me. So by that time my band
director played the piece for us over the sound system in the band
room, and it made me cry knowing what it was about because you could
actually hear the expression felt by the person going through the
time of pain and the way they overcame it. I give a big round of
applause to Samuel Hazo for this piece, it's truly beautiful.

Comments on: Fulvio's
at Eight
I wanted to thank
your company for having the initiative to put a recording of Fulvio's
at Eight on your web page. My 7th grade trumpet player has this
for an audition piece. Hearing the complete arrangement has made it
much easier for both of us (I'm a former French Horn guy!) to get a
feel for the piece. We like the flow and the melody. Thanks again!

Bravo Overture
Having performed
under Dr. Gruner at the University of South Alabama, I am proud to
say this selection is fantastic. I thank Dr. Gruner for including the
saxophone solos. It is well written and sure to be a crowd pleaser. I
will certainly keep it in mind when it comes time to pick festival music!

Comments on: Gettysburg
Our sixth grade
band has just started learning Gettysburg. The use of experimental
sounds along with planned dissonance and meter change makes for an
artistically profound work. The kids can't seem to get enough of this
piece. They're hooked!

Comments on: The
FJH String Orchestra Catalog
I have been
looking at and listening to concert recordings for middle school
orchestras and bands for the past week. As always, I found plenty of
choice selections for band and jazz ensembles. It is, however, most
distressing how limited our choices are for quality and interesting
string music. Then I came upon your catalog... what a find! I have
always been a fan of Del Borgo and enjoyed hearing his new
publications. I was also very excited to hear the works of Soon Hee
Newbold! Our orchestra will be playing her selections and I look
forward to seeing more of her work in the future. Other publications
were also of impressive quality. Thank you for your attention to
strings. Please keep it up!

Comments on: The
FJH String Orchestra Catalog
I wanted to tell
you how impressed I am with the music your company has published for
string orchestra! I participated in an orchestra music reading
session earlier this week and I was very impressed by the FJH music
we read (both the musical quality and the printed page). When I
returned to my home and studied the catalogue & listened to the
CD I was still impressed! The music is interesting and well written
and will appeal to all my students (grades 5 - 12). I especially
appreciated the quality of your CD which allowed me to hear the
entire piece without listening to voice overs. The full length CD is
also a valuable teaching tool. I play the tune for the kids and they
can actually hear what the finished product should be! Thanks for
your hard work! I purchased several tunes to use next year and I'm
sure I'll continue to purchase more in the future.

Comments on: Myths
and Legends
I am the Mother of
a Junior High Band Student and I had the pleasure of listening to Myths
and Legends played at the Madison County Band Festival 2002 in
Illinois, Conducted by Dr. Charles Menghini. I was so impressed and
moved by this piece that I had to search the internet for more
information about it. I can tell that this song touched the hearts of
the students by the perfection of talent by which it was played. So I
applaud the composer Rob Grice for the love of music and for grasping
the inner souls of student's hearts. I also want to thank all the
Student Music Directors and all the students of Elementary and Jr.
High/Middle Schools for performing one of the top Concerts I have
been too. Job Well Done! Thank You!

Comments on: Blue
Ridge Impressions
WOW! What a piece!
I played "Blue Ridge Impressions" at the Mississippi
Bandmaster's Association State Clinic this past December, and I was
very pleased. This song has such enthusiasm and the story that goes
along with it really comes out in the music. I've actually been
trying to get my band director to order this piece for our upcoming
Spring Concert :-). Well I hope EVERY young band gets the opportunity
to play this OUTSTANDING piece!!!

Comments on: Passacaglia
on an Old English Carol
I'd like to say
what a fine piece of literature this work represents. It puts the old
classical form of a passicaglia in a rather new, interesting and
above all, a very musical work.

Comments on: Ritual
Dances
Ritual Dances
by Elliot Del Borgo is a great piece! It is so much fun to play. The
tempo and the melodies paint such a great image of a ritual dance.
Del Borgo is the best composer for concert bands! Hopak, and Prelude
and Toccata are other great pieces by Del Borgo. Everyone should
play Ritual Dances!!!

Comments on: Bridgeway
March
I am from Warren
County Middle School in Front Royal,Virginia. Mr. Hilliard came to
work with us the week of September the 10th. He dedicated his piece Bridgeway
March to us and my band teacher teacher Mrs. Pam Dyke. I play
the clarinet. We had a great time with him this year. He also came to
our school last year. When I listened to this piece for the first
time I had to listen to it over and over again. It is a very great
piece. So I took the piece Bridgeway March that we got this
Tuesday (the 23rd) and showed my whole family. So I hope he will come
back to my school again. Thanks Dr. Hilliard!

Comments on: Summer
Dances
Ok Summer Dances
is an amazing piece with amazing chords. I imagine it to be the song
of Merlin the ancient wizard of Camelot. To me the song talks about
the Excalibur and the story of King Arthur. The rhythm and the flow
of the music are so powerful that it just makes one tingle. The way
the music changes moods and how the chords blend together, make one
imagine that he is living in the times of ancient sorcerers and
dragons who overpower the land. I'm not sure what Brian Balmages
intent was when writing the piece, but I indeed receive it as the
mystical chant of the medieval lord King Arthur.
The beginning
talks of the happiness in the land and all the happiness that people
have each day. Reaching the middle the music slows which makes one
imagine that a dark cloud has come over the kingdom of Camelot and
when the tempo becomes faster and the french horns come in it's like
a light is coming in from up above and soaring past the valleys and
reaching Camelot. And the chords (202) by the low brass are like
merlin making everything and again we get tempo primo which makes
everything as it was before.

Comments on: Socrates,
The Amazing Mississippi Map Turtle
We got this piece
early in the year and have really enjoyed working on it. It is very
accessible to our students and the enjoyment level of performing it
is high. We plan to program it on our spring concerts and expect it
to be a real hit with the audiences. Thanks for a great new funk
piece. Keep them coming!
