Sonatina of the Old West

This western style, four movement sonatina, truly captures the spirit of the pioneers who settled in the Wild West. The first movement Roundup on the Ranch, is full of energy and spirit that leads to the second movement, Ballad by the Campfire which is slow and expressive in an ABA form. Movement three, Dance in the Town Square, is fun and festive in a quick triple meter, emulating the sounds of fiddlers tuning up for the dance. The final movement, The Train Robbery, is dramatic and suspenseful achieved by a steady pulse of eighth notes throughout.
