The Intervallic
Reading Series provides supplemental repertoire that allows
students from all backgrounds and methods to benefit from playing
interesting pieces which emphasize intervallic reading. This early elementary/elementary
version of Be A Star! provides practice strategies that focus
on blocking, interval reading, finger placement, as well as
directional reading-encouraging students to learn to read intervals
and patterns in music, instead of reading note by note. [view

Late Elementary
The Intervallic
Reading Series provides supplemental repertoire that allows
students from all backgrounds and methods to benefit from playing
interesting pieces which emphasize intervallic reading. This Late
Elementary addition encourages students to read intervals and
patterns in the music rather than reading note by note. Because the
pieces are based on patterns, reading the music will sound impressive
without being too terribly difficult. Also includes beginning
practice strategies at the top of each piece for further learning. |

Early Intermediate
/ Mid-Intermediate
In Book 3,
the early intermediate to mid-intermediate piano student will further
their understanding of compositional forms, chords, phrases,
intervals, and patterns within a piece of music. Following Helen
Marlais' carefully crafted practice strategies, the students'
awareness and ability to identify and label these forms, chords, and
intervals, allows them to gain the freedom to read a piece of music
as a unified whole rather than several small parts. |

Elementary / Late Elementary
This special
holiday "addition" to the Intervallic Reading Series
provides both teachers and students the opportunity to study the
intervallic reading approach by utilizing the practice strategies
provided by Helen Marlais. Using familiar Christmas favorites,
students will be encouraged to uncover the intervals and patterns
that comprise each piece, and at the same time prepare their
Christmas repertoire. |

Early Elementary/Elementary
This book is part
of the Intervallic Reading Series that focuses on reading
intervals and patterns rather than note by note. Along with playing
on the white keys, students will also play pieces on black keys
utilizing a giant flat sign. This giant flat sign indicates that all
notes on the staff are to be played as flats (on the black keys). A
pencil icon at the top of each page highlights a beginning practice
strategy such as blocking, identifying, and circling intervals. At
the end of the book, there is an interval review where the student
identifies which piece the interval examples are found in. |

Elementary/Late Elementary
Following the
format set forth in Book 1, On Stage! Book 2 progresses from
the elementary to late elementary level by applying new and more
advanced intervallic reading techniques. Some of the concepts include
blocking (playing together) intervals, identifying intervals including
the octave, identifying whole tone scales, melodic and harmonic
intervals, half and whole steps, triads, and much more.
