About Succeeding at the Piano ®

Welcome to Succeeding at the Piano®, the FJH fully-integrated system of pedagogical success written by Dr. Helen Marlais. Succeeding at the Piano® covers every aspect of beginning and intermediate level piano playing! There are two ways to start a student in Succeeding at the Piano®. The information below highlights the different approaches used in the Core method and the All-in-One Approach.

Core Method
All-In-One Approach

Join the "Succeeding Team" and experience with your students the method of the next generation!
The 2nd edition of Succeeding at the Piano® and The All-in-One® are here!

Choice #1: The new 2nd edition, which consists of 3 books per level.   Choice #2: The All-in-One Approach to Succeeding at the Piano®, which is for the challenge of shorter lesson times.
The new 2nd edition of Succeeding at the Piano® consists of 8 levels - Preparatory, Grade 1A, 1B, 2A, 2B, 3, 4, and 5.   The All-in-One® Approach consists of 7 levels - Preparatory Books A and B, Book 1A, 1B, 2A, 2B, and 2C. From this point, students can easily move into Grade 3 of the core method. This is for older students or for the challenges of shorter lesson times.

Both approaches have their very own Merry Christmas! books, with delightful music and holiday activities!
In both approaches, you will love:

MUSIC
The superb variety of motivational music by multiple composers.

TECHNIQUE
The most effective way to teaching technique, by developing good habits from the very beginning. Teacher and student-friendly technique teaches healthy and natural motions which leads to excellent sound. Easy to remember, gradually introduced and reinforced, these techniques promote your students' technical success. At last, a method to ensure excellent technique by having your students learn and apply the easy and essential Touch releases.

READING
The easy-to-understand combined reading approach, with traditional reading and intervallic reading. Steps, skips and repeated notes are taught in the Preparatory level. 4th and 5th intervals are learned in Grade 1A.

MUSICALITY
Musicality is incorporated right from the beginning. Friendly icons remind students to listen and observe.

PRACTICE TECHNIQUES
Effective practice techniques engage students so they progress smoothly and retain key information.

COMPOSITION
Both approaches have fun and efficient "Time to Compose" activities so that students can review new concepts and take ownership of their own compositions!

CDs
Each book features play-along practice tracks on CD and as downloadable MP3 files. These orchestrated background accompaniments are in a variety of different musical styles, from country to folk to classical to jazz. The accompaniments are a perfect way for students to enjoy their practicing at home.

TEACHER SUPPORT
Teacher support - videos of actual lessons, downloadable accompaniment tracks, questions answered by Dr. Marlais, and correlation charts are readily available.
