Dr. Julie Ann Ballard
Julie Ann Ballard has a Doctor of Musical Arts
degree from the University of Southern California,
Los Angeles in Music Education and a Master of
Music degree in Piano Performance with a secondary
major in Piano Pedagogy. Dr. Ballard is a highly
decorated pianist, teacher, composer and researcher
with numerous awards, honors and publications.
Her pedagogical intermediate piano solo The
Crazy Scientist published by The FJH Music
Company Inc. was listed on the National Federation
of Music Clubs Festivals Bulletin.
Dr. Ballard presented her research on the music
content in modern elementary piano methods and
the effects of instrumental music study on the
brain at the biennial National Conference on Keyboard
Pedagogy (NCKP) in 2011, 2013 and 2015. Her research
articles on music study and the brain are published
in CAPMT Connect (Spring/Summer 2017)
"Neuroscience research on the effects of
music study on the brain" and Clavier
Companion (March/April 2018) "What does
instrumental music study really do to the brain?".
Dr. Ballard is Chair over the renowned annual
Music Teachers National Association (MTNA) Competitions
in Performance and Composition for the California
Association of Professional Music Teachers (CAPMT).
She is an acclaimed performer and runs a distinguished
piano studio in Orange County, CA.
