Arabian Dances

for Symphony Orchestra
Brian Balmages
Grade: 4

Explore Middle Eastern sounds with this work that combines traditional folk songs with original music. After a haunting opening, authentic Middle Eastern percussion instruments create the groove that accompanies the folk song Ala Dal’ona. As the orchestration builds, original themes are juxtaposed with existing material before an extended percussion ensemble takes center stage. The final folk song, Tafta Hindi, ultimately morphs into an ostinato over a magnificent presentation of the original theme found throughout the work. A dynamic work for symphony orchestra! (6:30)

COVID-19 and FJH Recordings
The COVID-19 virus has affected our recording sessions for concert band and full orchestra. In order to ensure the safety of all musicians and to comply with state and federal mandates, FJH has postponed our live recording sessions until a time when we can record safely. In the meantime, we have produced high-quality mockups to help you get a head start on previewing our publications. Nothing will ever replace the incredible musicians who record our music, and we look forward to being together again soon. Thank you for your understanding.
