Marilyn Thompson

Marilyn Thompson is enjoying a diverse career in classical and sacred music. She began performing as a student at Azusa Pacific University in southern California, where she accompanied voice recitals and the Azusa Pacific Concert Choir. On completion of her bachelor’s degree, Marilyn expanded her music education by receiving associate and licentiate degrees in teaching, and a fellowship diploma in piano performance from Trinity College of Music in London. Teachers have included Robert Dick, Vern Peterson, and Michael Martin.

A lifelong student, Marilyn is presently studying orchestration and composition with Dr. Ovid Young, and piano with Stephen Nielson, two professors who comprise the world-renowned piano duo Nielson and Young. In addition to being an arranger, orchestrator, and producer, Marilyn has released two duo piano books, an organ–piano duet book, two solo piano books, and a fully orchestrated original operatic work entitled Tapestry, which portrays the life of Martin Luther and the 16th-century Reformation.

Much of Marilyn’s life has been spent as a church musician, accompanying and organizing special musical productions. She has performed within the United States as accompanist for international opera singer Robert McFarland, and arranged and performed duo piano concerts that have included Crystal Cathedral in Garden Grove, California. She lives in the Dallas area with her husband Bill and three children.
